Focus Plane

A quick way to preview your focal plane.

Focus Plane Documentation

Overview

Focus Plane is a Cinema 4D tag plugin that draws a viewport-only plane at a camera's focus distance. It is meant to make focus placement easier while framing shots, animating focus pulls, or checking depth-of-field setups.

This plane is only a visual guide in the editor. It does not create scene
geometry and it does not render.

What It Does

When the tag is applied to a standard Cinema 4D camera, it:

  • reads the camera's focus distance

  • places a plane at that distance

  • keeps the plane aligned to the camera

  • optionally fits the plane to the camera frame

  • lets you control color, opacity, size, and grid display

Supported Object Type

Current standalone behavior supports:

  • standard Cinema 4D camera objects

If the tag is placed on a non-camera object, it safely draws nothing.

Controls

Color

Sets the plane color.

Default color for newly created tags:

  • #5518F2

You can also use the random color button to generate a vivid alternate color.

Opacity

Controls the visible fill strength of the plane.

  • lower values make it more transparent

  • higher values make it more visible

Fit to Camera Frame

When enabled, the plane automatically matches the camera frame size at the current focus distance.

When disabled, you can set a custom width and height manually.

Width / Height

Manual size controls for the plane.

These are only editable when Fit to Camera Frame is turned off.

Show Grid

Draws the outline and internal guide lines on top of the plane.

This is useful when you want a clearer framing reference in the viewport.

Active When Selected Only

When enabled, the plane is only shown when the host camera or the tag itself is
selected.
