EasyDuplicate

Easy Duplicate is a plugin that allows you to duplicate objects like in Maya. Easy Duplicate follows the behavior of Maya's copy function. Shift+D duplicates the object, and each subsequent click repeats the last offset (position/rotation/scale) applied.

Installation Go to Window > Customize Commands - find both commands and assign hotkeys: Shift+D for the Duplicate command and Alt+Shift+D for the Instance Duplicate command

Commands

Shift+D Duplicate

  • Object Mode: clones the entire object. The first click is a copy in place; if you move/rotate/scale a copy manually and click again, a new copy will appear with the same offset.

  • Polygon Mode: if polygons are selected, copies them inside the same mesh (like Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V) without creating a new object. It works the same way - move a copy, the next click repeats the shift. Only position translation is taken into account (no rotation/scale).

Alt+Shift+D Instance Duplicate - the same thing, but instead of a complete copy, an Instance object is created that references the original. If you duplicate an existing instance, the new one refers to the original object, and not to the instance of the instance.

Chain logic

If an object/geometry other than the last created duplicate is selected, the offset is reset and the copy appears in place of the original (a new chain). As long as you continue to work with the last take you created, the offset is remembered and repeated automatically, even without moving between clicks.

Limitation

Object mode and Instance mode support full affine delta (position + rotation + scale). Polygon mode only tracks translation, due to the lack of a single axis of rotation for a custom selection.

更新记录

  • 1.0.1 Now in polygon mode the plugin can track the movement of a pivot and make a duplicate based on this.
